Ready for face scan instead of passport check at airport? Over 70 percent of airports and airlines are planning trials or full rollouts of their own biometric scanning systems:

However, what passengers save on time could cost them in privacy. In a data breach announced in November, Marriott said 500 million guest records from its Starwood Hotels database were stolen—and for many guests, their passport numbers were included in that personal data.

Didn't know that as a private person you can now hire armed mercenaries to do a military operation for you somewhere - Professor hired mercenaries to rescue student from ISIS in Iraq after he said he wouldn't finish his thesis:

Following a few days of preparations, Gustafson hired a private security company, which then moved into the war zone in two Landcruisers with four heavily-armed mercenaries and one goal: rescue Jumaah and his family.

The family also almost paid off the university for the mercenaries they hired.

I had mixed feelings about what Bezos was doing. While he minimizes costs to the level of unbearable conditions for his workers, he has also been declaring his main focus being on customers and making things cheaper for them.

His caring about customers might seem somewhat noble. However, somethings doesn't add up here: Amazon's Jeff Bezos is $50 billion richer than any other person alive.

What could be in reality behind his declared focus is to achieve absolute domination in e-commerce by dumping prices, and since he is also pressing publishers and merchants to minimize their margins, his bottomline gets pumped up anyway. So, this strategy benefits him personally more than anyone else. And this is what Amazon is about.

Here is a fresh article on this subject: A Famous TV Show Just Showed a Different Side of Amazon's Jeff Bezos. It Wasn't Pretty and South Park episode it refers:

The author described the problem but didn't suggest any thought-out solution (just hinted he might favor UBI), and even made a point to leave it open-ended (that he is not in a position to devise the solution). How convenient this is, with him being an academician! This seriously reduces credibility of the book, while there are grains of truth in what he wrote. Yes, there are many useless jobs and there have always been, for pretty much the same reason through centuries, which he plausibly identified (wealthy keeping other unfortunate folks busy with token jobs and giving them a bit of money for that to maintain social order).

Libertarians have some good ideas that can have mass appeal, their issue is in being too academical, not always grounded to realities and lacking financial support, and here is more on the latter: If America is a consumer paradise, why are Republicans & Democrats the only choices available?

As half-Jewish I can attest that this book provides truly sparkling and authentic insight into the…

Nightclubs becoming less and less attractive for entertainment: 6 dead, more hurt in nightclub stampede in Italy. "Effectiveness" of nightclubs for entertainment is questionable, except if you go there for drinks, drugs and fun (and hangover next morning). If you go there for dating, most nightclubs are now rather the places of hookup. And these places are can be quite vulnerable to all kinds of incidents - small, crowded, often occupying spaces in basements etc and disregarding or loosening on the safety norms like in that place from the news.

Surprise from Carlson - Fox’s Tucker Carlson turns on ‘incapable’ Trump in surprising interview:

Carlson expressed skepticism regarding the prospect of a revolution in the United States, joking that “Testosterone levels are so low and marijuana use is so high” that Americans are as incapable as Trump in effecting major change. Carlson instead was hopeful about the prospect of the "slow self-segregation" of states and races polarized in contemporary America.

Not all of Carlson’s comments about the President were totally negative, however. He did say that Trump had played an important role in creating a national conversation about “what actually matters”, such as the United States’ critical immigration problems, and why NATO still exists 27 years after the end of the Soviet Union.
