Subscriptions are good for business and in many cases not so good for customers. Just compare the price of Microsoft Office - standalone edition with Microsoft Office offered in cloud. In just 5 years on subscription you will overpay multiple times for the product comparing with one-time purchase. So when a company is trying to evangelize subscription model of their product offering, you should know that they would likely benefit more from it than you.
An exception could be subscriptions like Netflix if you watch at least one movie per month and where you would unlikely watch almost any of the movies more than once, so it becomes groceries-like consumption. In such case subscription can save you money eg over cable channels or movie-on-demand.
