Not a bad book after all, a rare view of Internet industry and some practical suggestions on how things can be improved and get more balanced for market participants.

Sometime the author falls into rants about all the perils of the current entertainment business with artists and musicians losing their millions. The analysis could be more sharp and informative, and less emotional sometimes.

Author basically defines Internet giants in their current form as monopolies that have been destroying professional content production. Representing content production side (primarily advocating for movies and music business), he is deeply disappointed in the current situation. The analysis is sometimes more emotional than structural but nevertheless the author brings up an important topic and his research is not bad, especially considering lack of other works on this topic. Aside from regulation he basically suggests couple measures:

  • Content producers to form alternative digital distribution platforms, forming cooperatives
  • Content/authors to be paid by users appreciating it using micro-payments
